Biorhythms

The Biorhythm theory was invented at the beginning of 20th century by the Berlin doctor Wilhelm Fliess and Viennese psychologist Hermann Swoboda. Fliess has noted a pattern in his patients' behavior and derived, that all have their “good” and “bad” days that are periodically repeating.

Physical period is 23 days long, and during the good days you will feel physically strong to perform sports, training and other physical activities. During the bad days you will feel rather tired and exhausted. Emotional period is 28 days long. During the good days you will feel more creative and probably open in your relationships. On the contrary, bad days will make you less cooperative and maybe more irritated. Intellectual period is 33 days long, and when on the top side, you will be able to learn better, be open to new ideas, while during bad days, you might face some difficulties in understanding technical problems.

All the cycles start at your birthday, and although all three go in the same direction, the different period lengths will make them unsynchronized soon. They will return to the same spot as at the time of your birth, only after 21,252 days (over 58 years), which is the least common multiplier of the three numbers.

Matching Partners

One of the possible applications of the Biorhythm theory is a calculation of partners' match. This is based on assumption that the best match are partners with the same physical, emotional and intellectual periods in order to live in absolute harmony. This also means that the only 100% match can be met for partners born at the exact same day, or if their age difference is 58 years, but these relationships are not very practical from other obvious reasons.

But the good news is that the 0% match is also very unlikely. The periods might be completely out of sync only when your partner's period starts exactly in a middle of your period. The algorithm that calculates just full days, can produce a 0% match only for the emotional period as its length is an even number 28, while the 0% match will occur, if your partner is born exactly at the multiple of 14 days sooner or later. Physical and intellectual periods are odd numbers, and therefore there is no exact middle considering days.

Therefore, the match calculation includes also a variance range. When one partner is born at 11:59pm on one day and the other one at 0:01am the next day, their age difference is just two minutes, not the whole day. Also, if one is born at 0:01am one day and the other on 23:59pm the next day, the time difference is almost two days instead of one.

Overall match is calculated as a simple average of the physical, emotional and intellectual match.

Just a note to the assumption that the best harmony in partnership occurs only when your curves match: It only means that half of the time, both of you will have good days at the same time. But what about the other half? From that point of view, you might consider 0% as a better match, because at least one of you will have a good day and can support the other one. But on the other hand, you would hardly have both good days at the same time to fully enjoy common activities.

Offspring

Similar periods do also exist for calculation of your child gender based on the date of conception. The algorithm here is more complicated, and gives four possible outcomes: a boy, a girl, twins or unsure gender. Unsure gender doesn't mean that your child won't have any gender, but rather that the algorithm is not able to predict it. However, it is supposed to predict the gender of your newborn with 83% probability. You are welcome to verify that claim with your own experience.
